A habitual smoker, Roland fits a deal of cliches and certainly looks like a cowboy. His body is lean and well-kept but aging fast, and depending at what point in Roland's life you meet him, he may already be suffering from early onset arthritis. about roland A LOVELESS CREATURE IS A BEAST _______________________________ Roland is a gunslinger of Gilead – peacekeepers, leaders and mediators, gunslingers are a highly respected authority, and Roland is the last in his world: every other gunslinger is dead, including all of Roland's oldest friends. Alone, Roland travels in pursuit of the Dark Tower: the lynchpin of existence that has called to him since he was a boy. The Tower is at risk of falling, but that is not Roland's concern: he only wishes to climb it and to reach the top. On his journey, Roland has travelled across many universes other than his own. He is described as being nearly immortal: time has changed for Roland, as it has for many, and he has lived for hundreds of years, perhaps even thousands, all the while chasing his endless quest for the Tower, heedless of those who tell him to cry off. Roland carries a few specific items with him at all times: two large guns with sandalwood hilts, made of fine and ancient silver, passed down to him from his father. His matching guns are a set, but sometimes Roland will only have one - the other will usually be in the possession of Eddie Dean.
